DIY Dropcloth Rustic White Pumpkins On A Budget

Hello and good day to you all!

I have been fighting a nasty cold
and not a lot of energy lately. In
between naps I have been trying to
make my mind believe I feel great!

I have been tackling my wanna do list
little by little and today I was able
to scratch one more thing off the list!

I keep saying I'm not a rustic girl
but I see that the last two projects
were just that! I needed some pumpkins
to add to my last wanna try, and I came
across this cute idea that of course
piqued my curiosity and I had to try!

I call these "pumpkins on a budget!"
Why you might ask....these little guys
are made with a roll of toilet paper! Yep
they are! My husband thought I was whacked,
but I told him "just wait and see!" And
when I got them all finished, he was
surprised to see how cute they really were!

I wanted some small white pumpkins and
because I haven't felt like going
shopping I decided to make my own.
That's more fun anyway right!? I grabbed
my painters drop cloth, some green
burlap, twine, some sticks and spanish
moss from the woods next door, and a
handful of loose burlap ravelings, (I
keep everything)and to the task. Oh and
a couple of rolls of toilet paper!

I used one whole roll of toilet paper for
for the first one...(taking out the
cardboard roll inside.) Then I cut one
in half also removing the cardboard roll inside.

I made cuts on my drop cloth two inches
wide and then just ripped several strips.
Then I started wrapping the strips around
the roll of toilet paper starting on the
inside of the roll and ending on the inside
of the roll, and put a dab of hot glue to
hold them in place. Next I took two pieces
of burlap frayings together and wrapped
those around the the painters cloth in
varing places to give the look of the
contours in a real pumpkin. On the bottom
of my pumpkin now, I took a piece of drop
cloth and stuffed it inside where the
cardboard tube use to be to hold all the
twine in place...with a dab a glue. I could
have cut a large circle and glued that on
the bottom, which would have given it a
more polished look, but I didn't have a
strip wide enough for a circle and I didn't
want to cut into my dropcloth just for that.
Nobody looks at the bottom anyway...so fancy
wasn't so important just for me.

My pumpkin bottoms. Good enough!

Next, I got my green burlap and cut leaf
shapes, and I cut one smaller leaf shape
out of the dropcloth too. I got my sticks
broken off to the size I wanted. Then took
a bunch of the frayed strands of burlap,
laid them loosely on the tops center,
stuffed the stick down in the middle,
tucked the leaf in and added a little
sprig of the spanish moss with it.
And done!

And I think they are so cute!
What do you think! And they didn't
cost me a dime! Besides having a very
large craft stash, and saving everything
right down to strands of burlap, and
using what nature gives us to play with,
I got a pretty rustic Fall decoration
for my table in the breakfast nook!
Not bad! And toilet paper is something
we all have on hand right!?

I got the sunflowers from an old
grapevine wreath my son picked up
one day at a garage sale. I tore it
apart for another beach wreath I want
to make. They gave some pop here with
the pumpkins. Those topiaries I found a
long time ago and still trying to figure
out what I want to do with them. But they
look good on the table with the pumpkins.
My hubby hates those things lol. He says
they look dead....I think they fit right
in with rustic don't you! And the copper
planter I found at a second hand shop
was perfect for setting the topiaries in!
I liked it all together!

After I finished my baby pumpkins, my
husband said, "can you make a taller
pumpkin?" I said let's try. I had brought
out all kinds of fabrics when I was going
to make these pumpkins and he liked this
purple plaid fabric and said, "make one
using that"...that was a fabric napkin
with fringe all around the edges. As I
looked at it, I thought it would compliment
the drop cloth with a compliment of colors.
So I did.....I used two rolls of toilet
paper stacked on top of each other to get
the tall pumpkin.

Did it the same way as the others, but
on the top I used the fringe and some of
the unraveled strands of fabric. Gotta
make use of everything right!? I used the
drop cloth leaf I had cut and the green
burlap leaf together for this one. Then
wrapped a strip of drop cloth around it
and knotted it.

Not bad, and they all compliment each
other. Hubby thought HIS idea was a
great one...I had to agree, not bad.

These were really fun, turned out quite
cute, and easy peasy to make. Kinda
crazy, but hey it worked!

You could use any fabric to make these
with. If you don't care for rustic,
decorate them in your type of
decor flavor.

Here is a tutorial that will help you
if you need it....this is where I got
the idea to make mine. This girl used
pretty ribbon. Click HERE. Hers
is adorable!

Hope you are inspired!
Have a great day!

Let's Talk Fall ~ A Pretty Rustic Centerpiece

Can you believe it's Fall already!?
Makes me so sad!
Summer is my ultimate favorite season!
And...I love the most, the time I get to have
with my grandchildren. I already miss them.

I don't mind the cooler temps whenever they
might show up but, I hate that it gets dark
so much earlier. Seems there are more hours
of darkness than there is light! And for me there
is! I'm a night owl and stay up half the night then
can't get my tail out of bed until noon or so! I truly
need habits like normal people!

Well I have something fun to show you!
I was on Hometalk the other day and came
across this centerpiece and fell in love with it!

I'm really not a rustic so much kinda girl, but I do
love creating with nature, so maybe that's why it
appealed to me. Or maybe it was her pictures too.
They were pretty. Who knows, I just liked it a lot!

Well of course I had to try it. I had these vases tucked
away and decided they would work. Had the burlap,
had the paper roses from another project I did and
couldn't stop making them, had some real leaves my
little granddaughter Emma and I had collected last
year, even though the original was a paper leaf. I
had the twine, and instead of glue, I used Mod Podge
for attaching the burlap to the vases.......and
I had the candles too. My lucky day!

Well I did use the glue gun for the acorns on the leaf
and attaching the twine to the candleholders, oh and
the flowers and the stick too!

Then I went out in my yard and found the stick and
several acorns. They are already falling off the trees
all over my driveway and yard! Makes such a mess!

The only thing I didn't have was a pumpkin and
a slab of wood with bark. Well I did have some
fabric pumpkins but I wanted a real one, a white
one.....and the right size. Mine were too big.

I saw Tonya had a tutorial, but I just worked from
the pictures.....and with just a couple of small changes
and no wood slab, or pumpkin I did it! Last I set the
candles in and they are ready to decorate with.
And.....I love mine too!

This is our first monogrammed anything!
I printed the W out from Microsoft word, and
stuck it up on my kitchen window and laid my
burlap over it. Instead of painting it, I found
in the junk drawer one of those furniture
touch up pens and it was brown...the perfect
color! And it worked great!

It didn't take long to do at all and it was really fun!
And the best part...It didn't cost me a dime!
Being thankful for stash once again!

If you love it too and want to make some then visit:
Love of Family & Home here: for Tonya's tutorial!
She even shows how to make those cute fun paper
roses! Now I'm going to find a tray for my pretties
and set them on my buffet in the dining room.

Hope this inspired you to get with the business of Fall!

Thanks for sharing your time with me!

Love and Blessings!

Putting the Farm Back In The Girl

Don't you just love old vintage buckets and pails!?
The rust and dents and scratches just get me giddy
when I see them. I scarf them up every chance I get!
They remind me of when I was little going out to the
farm where my father grew up...always lots of buckets!
They had a apple orchard, pear orchard, and a big garden!
Needless to say, I learned very young what to do with
a bucket! The memories of growing up just flooded
my mind while I transformed the ones below.

Good Times!

There are just endless ways of transforming these old
vintage pails and buckets. I kinda favor burlap, lace,
lace rolled roses, and of course a bit of bling!
I also like to paint numbers on them just to display.
For a beach decor theme, paint them white, or aqua
yellow, green, or pink, and fill them with shells,
or pretty summer flowers. You can decoupage them,
or paint a picture on them. Tons of possibilities!

And, there are so many things you can use them for!
They are a perfect addition to farm house decor....
even in the bathroom for rolled up towels, or bath
accessories. The kitchen for your utensils.
Sweet additions to country weddings to display flowers.
For a countryside picnic they are great for chilling
a bottle of wine on ice. Picking apples, displaying
small pumpkins, as a stand for a small Christmas
tree, fill with pine cones, or even use for your nut
holder for the holidays. And they are a great addition
to use in a vignette for photo shoots just to name a few.

I countryfied these two buckets, actually coal buckets for
a friend of mine who had a shop and they weren't selling.
Neither were her vintage galvanized pails. I suggested doing
something fun with them to deck them up.

This first one I did a white wash with paint then sanded it
lightly. I got out my burlap, white paint, some lace, a vintage
lace tablecloth that had some damage, and some vintage
rhinestone jewelry. I painted a square of white on the burlap,
and then hand painted "Farm Girl" in black over the white
painted area. (I was thinking country girl with this one.)

After the paint dried, I Mod Podged it to the bucket and
added two stripes of cream colored lace at the top and
bottom of the painted area to kinda frame it a bit, also with
the Mod Podge. Then I cut long wide strips of the vintage
lace tablecloth, and rolled it into roses...with my glue gun
I glued a bit of bling in the flowers center. Three were
grouped on the front and glued on with my glue gun also,
with a clipping of the fancy lace I tied at the handle that had
like a stem and leaves. I set a potted miniature rose bush in it
and it was done!

I thought she was pretty sweet!
I was a little bit farm girl growing up,
and do I ever miss my grandparents place now.

All you need to play and create is some pails or
buckets just like these! Just get your thinking cap
on! I love my buckets. Boy that one needs a bit of
scrubbing on the bottom half. Moisture rust!

I used all the same items on this next one. This time I
wrapped a wide piece of burlap all the way around it,
and secured it by using my Mod Podge. In the center of
the front I rolled the top down a bit and gathered it up in the
center. Then I took my fancy wide lace and wrapped it all
around the bucket also. I secured it with my glue gun in the
center front. I rolled another vintage lace tablecloth rose, added
some bling in its center. I cut another piece of burlap and pinched
it together in the center, attached with the glue gun, and then
glued the rose on over the top of it. I cut one more long some
what wide piece of the lace tablecloth and wrapped it all
around the handle. There was a bit left hanging so I just
clipped it into streamers. I added a second rolled lace rose
with bling where the handle connected to the bucket. I took
two very narrow strips of the lace tablecloth and wrapped it
around the lip of the top of the bucket and above the bottom
seam on the bottom of the bucket. And then it was just right!
(see the photo above for the just right finish!)

I delivered them back to my friend and guess what? They
sold right away! Sometimes you just have to take something
and make them look happy, then they'll catch some body's eye!

I never did get anything for using my stuff or for my time
which really wasn't a big deal, but that was what she had told
me she would do to help them sell. I get burned like that
a lot. Oh well....I had fun creating them and somebody loved
them enough to take them home and enjoy.

I got some holiday plans for a couple of my buckets up above!
It's so much fun taking something old and drab, and giving
it a new life and use isn't it! Even if this isn't your taste,
I bet you could think of some cool ways to upcycle some
old tired buckets or pails too!

Thank you for the visit today! I always enjoy the company
and it's so fun to share!

TaTa Till Later!
Have a blessed day!
