Bingeing On Pumpkins ~ Creating My Own Pumpkin Patch

Hi Ya'll!

Hope you all had a great Halloween!

Was just thinking today we are closing close up on
the first day of winter....Dec. 21st is just around the
corner.....brrrr! Believe it or not, we are having
some very chilly temps this weekend here in Florida
already! It was 49 degrees last night! Now that
is cold! Well for us down south folks it is!
Really wondering what our winter will bring
us this year.

Halloween was very chilly and windy this year!
Don't remember a cold Halloween in a long time.
Normal for us is "sweating it!

I always hate seeing Summer end, but I do love the Fall.
It's not as fun here as we don't have all the beautiful
Fall colors as I remember from home in Michigan. I
really miss that so much. I miss being able to go out
to find those huge pine cones, and big acorns to craft
with also. So much I miss about home at different
times of the year! Christmas time will be the next time.

Speaking of acorns....I did gather up a bucket full to
use in some of my Fall decorating, but they are so tiny
compared to what I am use to. I also had a little fun
making some pretty colorful acorns. I found some glass
beads that I was planning for something a long while
back, and never used for what ever that was, as I can't
remember. I saw somewhere some acorn jewelry with
some beads, so I thought, I'm going to make some
beaded acorns. I loved the colors and they had a Fall
color to them. So, I got my glue gun, several acorn tops
and I glued the beads into the tops. I liked them.

I went on a pumpkin binge this year also. I had wanted
to make some pumpkins for the last couple of years
out of different fabrics and vintage chenille's I had
set aside to do that with, and other than a couple I
had made from a mans white tank tee, I ran out of
time and never got to them. This year I was determined
to do it! And boy did I, but I still have a few left on my
list I didn't get to. Some velvet pumpkins was one on
the not done list. Oh well, another time. I got so crazy
into it I ended up with "Thirty Eight Pumpkins" total!
I got my own pumpkin patch! I think I was addicted!

Now I am pumpkined out, maybe lol! My hubby is glad
my steam is running out for sure...he was beginning to
think the next thing I would use was the curtains!

I was seeing everything I looked at as a pumpkin!
These are ALL the ones I did for this year...except for
one....it's made, but not finished. It will be a fancy one
but her full vision hasn't hit me yet so she sits.

I made pumpkins out of chenille's, sweaters, painters
drop cloth, twine, checks, and plaid fabrics, and even
garlic bulbs....some are fancy, some just plain, some
simple.

I already posted a few in earlier posts so you may have
seen a few of these. But here is the whole nine yards
of them! It's a lotta pumpkins but I loved making them!

Update!......I finally got the last little pumpkin done!

After I got it finished it looked Gothic to me, not at
all what I had envisioned when I started it. I named
her "Chalice"...that is supposed to be a girls Gothic
name. I used black lace with rhinestones and black
and white feathers. Used black yard to wrap the stem
and on the base of the pumpkin. Used the sleeve of an
off white sweater for the pumpkin itself. Now on to the
fun of Christmas crafting!

This is the last one I did. This is a sweater pumpkin
made using the turtle neck part of the sweater
I made from the same sweater pumpkin named
"Purity" shown down below. This was a cowel neck
turtle neck... so was pretty wide and full. I used some
wired twine on this one that I had ordered in the mail
and had finally arrived....a bit late from all my pumpkin
making. So much easier to use than making
my own curly vines. Making my own is messy too!
This is so soft, pretty plain, but I decided I liked it just
like this.

These are the white chenille ones made using four different
vintage chenille bedspreads in different designs. There is a
tall one, a short squatty one, a little round ball shaped one,
and a couple of large wide around ones. I love white
pumpkins! I used sticks for stems and twirled some twine
around a wooden spoon using Mod Podge smeared all
over it to get it to stay twirled. That was a messy job!
I liked these a lot!

Then I tried some twine pumpkins. I saw a tutorial for
this type but didn't want to spend the same time they
did making them. So I just cut several lengths of twine
the same size, glued the ends together, and lathered
them with Mod Podge to get some stiffness. I used a
stick on one, and a cinnamon stick on the other
wrapping them around each with another long length
of twine using my glue gun to adhere the start of the
twine and end of the twine in place. I stuck a bay leaf
in and done. These look rustic to me and I found
smaller seemed better. They hold the stiff shape better.
The larger one is a bit floppy still. Not as thrilled with these
though, but they are ok...like the little one the best.

I loved these little guys....black and cream checks and
plaids. I made a couple of each along with a couple
navy blue and cream checked ones. The others I placed
in this oblong wooden crated, or whatever it is with some
of the small drop cloth and orange chenille pumpkins I
made. They all looked nice together playing off each
other in colors and textures.

I had bought this orange hob nob chenille as some
call it, off of eBay about eight or nine years ago to
make pumpkins with. There was a lady on eBay that
I had purchased several things from that made pumpkins
using orange chenille. I thought them so cute. She had
dyed the chenille to get her orange color. One day I came
across an orange chenille on eBay and snagged it up. I
wanted to make some for myself and this would save me
from having to do the dying process. The shade of orange
was such a pretty color and the bedspread had a couple
of holes in it, so this would be perfect to use for pumpkins.
I can't believe it has taken me this durn long to actually
make the pumpkins! I really love these little sweeties,
and the color is a beautiful orange!

Shortly after I did this post, a lady contacted me on
Face Book saying she loved the chenille pumpkins and
wanted to know if I had any blue chenille. She had a blue
kitchen and wanted to display some there. I took photo's
of the different blues I had and she picked this one, which
was my favorite too. I used the brown wired twine I had,
and I just love the contrast! Didn't know how blue
pumpkins would look but I have to say I love these!
And here I thought I was done making pumpkins!

These little guys were made using painters drop cloth.
I just cut three round circles, did a running stitch
using embroidery floss (doubled) around the edge,
stuffed it with pillow stuffing, stuck a stick in it and
then gathered it up by pulling the ends of the floss to
close it up. I wrapped some twine around the bottom
of the stick and cut some leaf shapes out the the fabrics
I used for the plaid and checked pumpkins, and glued
them in place. They are all together in the wooden
oblong crate.

All the smaller ones together in the wooden oblong crate
sitting on my coffee table.

Then I decided to go a little fancy! These are the sweater
pumpkins I did that are shown in an earlier post. I had
so much fun with these! I had an idea of what I was
going for, but once I got started they just took their own
course and I was so surprised how they turned out!

This is my Victorian Pumpkin.... here. This little gal was
made using a taupe colored sweater I couldn't wear any-
more, some vintage lace, a couple of different types of
rhinestones, and a necklace I made from parts I had
left from another necklace I had used on the "Princess
pumpkins. I used the cuff of the sweater to wrap around
the twine stem and rolled it down just a tad. Then I
added a string of some rhinestones just below the rolled
down part of the cuff. I took some more of the string of
rhinestones and wrapped it around and around to cover
up the edges of the sweaters stem on the very top. I also
added one larger single rhinestone to the middle right at
the top. Her name is "Victoria."

This is another sweater I grew out of here. I used a portion
of the sleeve to make this one and the one above so they are
little but so sweet. This has some more vintage lace that
I cut off of a lace doilie. I wrapped a strand of pearls
around the stem on this one all the way to the top and
then continued it around the very top to hide the sweater
edges, then added one larger pearl in the center. I placed
a few more pearls on the lace in certain places, added
some feathers and one larger jeweled piece for some
sparkle. She turned out gorgeous! Some of my friends
said it reminded them of Zsa Zsa Gabor...I think so too
now lol! I had named this one "Purity", but now she
is called "Zsa Zsa." That gave an idea for another
pumpkin that I'll get to later. She has to have her man!
(wink!)

These pretty pink chenille sweeties posted here:
were made with my sweet little granddaughter Emma.
She wanted to make princess pumpkins. I let her pick
out all the things she wanted on them, and the chenille's.
Then I showed her how to make them...no sewing involved.
The only pumpkins that had any sewing to them at all,
was the drop cloth ones. These are all easy and fun, and
quick to do! My Emma had a great idea and showed
great taste in what she wanted to create. We loved how
they turned out. Emma is quite the visionary! A little
girl after her grandma's heart!

These were the first sweater pumpkin's I made. One more
sweater too small to wear anymore. This is a bit of a
bulkier knit but so soft. These are in a sculptured look just
like "Victoria" and "Zsa Zsa" above. These are in a cream
color and I used twine, drop cloth leaves, and some
rhinestone jewels to give them a rustic chic look. These
were posted here also. I got six pumpkins out of this
sweater with still the top of the front and back I can
use for a couple more!

These pumpkins were made using strips of drop cloth
wrapped around some toilet paper rolls! Yep toilet
paper! These were really fun to create. I cut the leaves
out of some green burlap, used the loose strands of some
natural burlap for a rustic look, and added sticks for
stems and a sprig of tree moss. Those were posted here.

This was made by stacking two rolls of toilet paper
on top of each other....my silly hubby wanted me to
see how that would look and he picked the fabric.
I had dubbed these, "pumpkins on a budget."

And last was this crazy idea that actually went viral lol!
I took garlic bulbs and painted faces on them like ghosts,
tied little bows with twine for the tops and came up with
"garlic ghost pumpkins!" They are so cute! Those are posted
here. My hubby had thought I had completely gone over
the edge on this little idea! I said earlier I was on a
pumpkin binge and I was seeing everything I looked at
as possibly being a pumpkin! The cool thing is, is
they are still looking great and no rotting or shriveling
up yet. Curious to how long they will last!

Well for now I'm done with pumpkins, well kinda sorta!
I got still more ideas and things to make them with before
I'm totally done, and then probably not! I had fun,
went way beyond what I had planned for them, but hey,
isn't that what being creative is all about. There is never
an end or non-stop vision to that! Plus, I still have this
little white and black one to finish.

I even had some friends ask me to buy some from me!
So I'm whipping those up to get them mailed out this
week...that was a nice plus and surprise! I guess going
pumpkin crazy can have some unexpected benefits!

TaTa Till Later! (or the next pumpkin idea!)

Thinking Christmas now....but wait, are pumpkins
in the scheme of Christmas too!? I dunno know!
I'll get back with you on that!

Have a great day!

Lace Candle Crowns and Napkin Crowns ~ A Pretty Idea

This might just be a new idea!
Handmade Lace Candle Crowns and Lace Crown Napkins Holders!
Perfect for the Princess in YOU!

I did some research and didn't find anything like it so
maybe this is a first! That would be cool!

I was cleaning up the formal dining room and resetting
the table with a change of china. I was getting tired
of what was there. I had forgotten about a set of
black and white china I had purchased when I was
17 years old for my hope chest right after I had
graduated high school. I was engaged to be
married so I was purchasing things for my new life.

Well that never happened because of a car accident
six months later, and my sweetie lost his life.
That was my first introduction to adult life. :(

So THIS was the first time I had ever used them,
41 years later!

Then I got out my crystal smoked glass wine glasses
that I bought at the same time as the china....can't believe
they have all made it in one piece all these years with all
the moves I've had in my days. They looked perfect
with the black and white china.

As I finished setting the table with the china,
I turned to the buffet to get my candles out of the drawer.
I picked out some white tapers and put them on
the table in some pretty glass candle holders.
Then I added a large pillar candle in the center
and set a glass globe over that.

All finished and I was happy with it!

I turned back to the buffet to put away what was originally
on the table, and sitting there were some of the lace crowns
I had made. A bada bing moment hit me.....

I looked at the crowns, then over to the candles,
then back to the crowns again and thought....
those candles need crowns! And some sparkly too!!

When I had made all the those crowns a couple of weeks back,
I had planned on making some black ones, but never did.
But black would be perfect here on the white candles,
and it would look great with the black and white china too!
So can you guess what I set out to do!?
Yep...I made some candle lace crowns with sparkly bling!

Once they were all finished I set them on the candles.
It had been cloudy and windy all day but the sunlight
all of a sudden was streaming through the
windows and shining through all the glass on the table
and it looked so pretty and sparkly.

I thought maybe that was my lost honey smiling
down on me letting me know, he liked the table too with
the pretty china that had been meant to be used on our first
formal dinner party with our families after our wedding.
A flood of memories hit me like a ton of bricks,
and I had to catch a breath to hold back the tears.
That is still so crushing sometimes, even after all these years!

I walked out of the dining room into the kitchen and another
idea came into my mind....thank goodness cause I was
feeling pretty ucky at the moment, but I thought one more
thing was needed on that table! The napkins...and one more
thing too! Napkin holders....and they should match the candle
crowns and with bling, so guess what I did next!

Yep....I made lace napkins holder crowns with sparkly!

Now the table was complete, with matching everything!
And it sparkled and made me smile!

I love the table setting, but in a few days I will probably put
it all away back in the boxes. I just get to sad every time I
look at it. But.....I love the idea that came to my brain all
because of my old forgotten china and my lace crown creations.

Candle and napkin crowns! They really are pretty!

They are pretty with the candles lit and they just slip on
and off so I can use them again and again. They are
best used with no-drip candles though, so the dripping wax
doesn't ruin them. I can set them at any level on my candles I want because they slide easily enough up or down. I think I'll make some pretty Spring colored ones to set with my white china for my Easter table. Maybe I'll go with a wider lace for the next ones too...
how pretty that would look all in different Spring pastel colors!

My table looked so pretty and elegant and sparkly!

So what do you think!?

If you like the idea too, they are easy peasy to make.

You just need the candles you want to use, some pretty lace,
the liquid gooey stiff stuff, glue gun and glue sticks,
craft paint if you want a certain color, and some sparkly bling!
Then use this tutorial that I used to make my other
lace crowns and you can have your own pretty candle crowns
in no time at all! Have fun and enjoy your pretty tables or
where ever you may use your candles!

Shabby Tattered Paper Angel Wings or Organdy Ribbon Angel Wing Tutorial

Make these shredded book page angel wings.....or

Make these gorgeous organdy ribbon angel wings!.....
(go to the bottom of this page for the adjustments and
instructions for the organdy wings.)

You asked so here it is....Now this is the first time I have ever done a tutorial, so, I hope you will be able to follow this to create your own pretty wings. If you have any questions, don't hesitate asking!
OH!!! I am no way a professional at this either lol. Here Goes!!!
This is a list of what I used to create the paper angel wings:
*Cardboard ~ (I used one of my packing boxes from moving.)
(This is for drawing your wings onto and cutting them out)
* Also 2  or more...Squares of Cardboard ~
(Cut large enough to use to press down the
hot glued strips of paper.)
This helps you from getting burned by the glue when pressing
down your strips of shredded paper on your card board wings.
I burnt the tar out of my hands doing the first set, EVEN with using the cardboard. No burns second time around....got smarter I guess!
*Burlap or any Fabric ~ (I cut a piece of burlap that was large
enough to cover the backside of the cardboard wings.)
*Modge Podge
*Scissors
*Sponge Brush
*Glue Gun
*Glue Sticks ~ (Several of them, takes quite a bit of glue.)
*Wire or Ribbon ~ (for hanging your wings.)
*2 Picture Hangers of Some Kind ~ (for attching your ribbon or wire for hanging)
*Paper Shredder ~ (Or see if you can nab a ton from some business that shreds everything!)
*Old Book Pages ~ (Lots and Lots and Lots of them :)
*Waste Basket ~ (For all your shredded paper)
*A Piece of Old Costume Jewelry ~ (or whatever you would like for the center of your wings.)
*Something hard, long, and narrow for bracing the back of your wings ~ (I used a wood dowel for the large wings. For the ones in this tutorial I made, which are smaller, I used a smaller wood skewer that I had on hand that we use for shish kabobs. (Whatever works hehe!)
*Find a comfortable place to create these and PLENTY of time!!!
It took me NINE hours to do the ones pictured above!  And!....not much less time making these much smaller ones! But I was taking pictures for this along the way too. But so worth it after they're finished...I totally love them!
OH!!!!  AND.....one more thing! Prepare for Messy LOL!!!!
Ok here we gooooooooooooo........
I have planted my little fanny on the floor sitting on a pillow in front of my tv....love to watch movies while I craft...(sitting on a hard floor so long kills my back hence the pillow!) and....I am going to be sitting for a few long hours making this baby! I also found that wax drippings are so much easier to get up from tile floors too! :)  Good THING!
First thing you will need to do is shred your book pages.....start with at least a large basket full!  For the first wings I did (first picture above), which are 20"W x 21 1/4"L, I used four 13 gallon size baskets full, And, I was pressing it down as I was shredding until it was to full to press down anymore! I told you, you will need alot of shredded book pages for this project depending on the size wings you decide to make. For the small we are making here for the tutorial, I only used three quarters of the basket. I need to go measure this little one, don't have the measurements yet of the cut out wings...sorry.
Take a handful of your shredded book pages and place it near your work area....be gentle because if you can keep it as close to how it falls into your basket as your shredding, the better! It's much easier to pick up a few that are all laying the same direction for gathering together. Otherwise it's picking them up one by one to lay them together in a bunch. THIS is what takes SO LONG!!!

Here is my shape of wings. You need to draw out on a piece of cardboard your angel wings any size you want.....just remember though larger means........SEVERAL HOURS to complete lol!  This one is much smaller than the first one I made. But it still took about the same amount of time....go figure!  Next~

Take whatever your going to use to give support and glue it on the back of your cardboard wings. Make sure you glue it on good!

Now take the piece of burlap you've cut large enough to fit over the entire piece of cardboard. Cover your cardboard including the brace with Modge Podge using your sponge brush. Once that dries, which doesn't take long, take your scissors, and tirm off all the over hang so it looks like this.

OK.....we are all done with the easy part!!! Now be prepared to sit awhile! :)

Now you are going to gather up about 10 to 12 pieces of shredded paper laying them one on top of the other and keeping the ends as even as possibly, doesn't have to be perfect.

I had about 20 here, but when I got done I had to thin it all out a little because, they came out really thick and fluffy, more than I wanted for these little wings... so 10 to 12 is good. You'll see why as we get further along. Just remember, the thicker each of the bunches of paper strips, the fluffier the wings will be.

Now take your glue gun and squeeze some glue on both sides of your strips of paper, and with the point of your gun there, dab the glue as well as you can so it gets a little bit of glue in between all the layers of paper. Dab a glob of glue on the top side and bottom side also. Make it so it's all around and inbetween. Does that make sense!?  Hope so! :) Again, doesn't have to be perfect.

Now take your square piece of cardboard and lay your strips even with the center of the tip of the wing and lay it about an inch up from the tip. With your cardboard square press down and press up away from you to smish all the pieces together and to the cardboard wings. Keep a good hold on the strips with your other hand or when your pressing up, it can pull your strips upward as well. You don't want that to happen. I do this a couple of times to make sure it is all flattened as much as possible. The glue dries fast so it can get sticky trying to press upward. Your square cardboard piece will get pretty gunky as you go along so just keep using all the edges of it until you can't use it so well, then use another piece. I have been able to use just two to do the whole glueing process, but you might want to use more. Just keep some cardboard available if you need it.

After you have applied the first strip set of strips, then go to the other side and place a set of strips there the exact same way and in the exact same place. By working up on both sides at the same time, you will be able to control the wings looking exactly the same thickness all the way through to the top. The layering will look the same also.....The next photo will show you what it should look like.

Doesn't have to be perfect! :) Just try to keep the placement on both sides even across.

Now to start your second row about an inch above the first row and do the same thing, starting on the edge and work across. Remember to ALWAYS hold firmly to the strip your laying and pressing, plus the ones you just laid and pressed because your cardboard can still stick to the previous ones until the glue has totally set and dried. This way you don't have to wait until it's completely dried so you can just keep on going. It takes LONG ENOUGH as it is to finish this! :)

NOTE: The closer the rows, the fuller the wings! You can spread the rows out more in between if you don't want them real full. For example, put about two inches inbetween rows if you want.

Keep stacking your paper layers and glue and press on both sides until you are all the way to the top!

Really important note!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you are working along the curved part of the wings, when laying your strips......turn the strips more inward so it will follow the shape of the cardboard, not alot....just enough so the curved sides slant inward. Maybe I should have done a picture of that, but I didn't, sorry. You'll get it ok, no worries......It doesn't have to be perfect!!!  :)

Here we are about halfway done...I started this about 3:30ish AM...it's now 6:00AM....this is where I got some shut eye until Noon! I'm a tired baby!  OK note here how the strips were laid along the curves?   You can see how they are slightly turned in...Yea!!!  I did have a picture of it! :)

Here we are to the top finally!!!!!!  Yippee!!!!  But!.....we aren't done yet! :)

Now we are going to finish the center bar between the wings. You will take a stack of strips and lay them evenly together and tear them in half. Put a line of glue down the center of what I call the bar in between the wings, and center the strips using enough to cover all the cardboard. This set of wings took 3 layered strips sets to cover the bar. You might have to add more glue if it dries before you get it all laid down....just press and hold for a minute until it has stuck.

Now to finish the curved top of the wings to hide that ugly glue!

Stack a double amount of strips together more than you have been using through out....so if you were using 10 to 12 strips, double that to 20 or 22. Glue it all together and on your work station which I used a large piece of cardboard for that on my floor, take and press it down and together just like you have been doing on the wings, then pick it up and hold it until it is dry. Once it is dry so it is all held together, put a good dab of glue on the outside of your wing (I started with the left side of the wings),  and put that dab so it is about even with the top of your center bar in the middle of the wings, or down as far as you can see the ugly glue on your top row of strips. It should look like this picture does with the loose ends of the strips pointing up and away from you. Glue it right there!

Now turn the whole wings around and fan or spread out the strips. Make sure the glue has dried completely so it won't budge because now we are going to start turning, rolling, and twisting this entire strip to arch around the whole top of the wing to the center bar. If it doesn't go that far, just glue down the end of it, and make another set of strips exactly like you just did, and start it where the other left off and take it to the edge of the bar, glue it down and snip off any excess.

Start rolling and twisting as close as possible to where you have glued down the one end. Keep rolling and twisting until you get to the end of it. Hold it tight, then run some glue all along the edge of the arch of the top of the wing, then press and hold down until it is set and won't move. Depending on how much ugly glue is showing at the top of your wings, you will do two to three rows of this.

This is how it looks with the first row done. On the very first set of wings I did, the large wings....I did two rows....on this small set, it took three rows to cover all the ugly glue. If you have any sticky uppy ends of paper sticking up, just tear it off or dab a little glue to keep it down. With your next row of the roll and twisted strip, run your glue gun right at the base of your top row, use a good healthy amount of glue, and lay your second tightly close to the first row. Try to avoid there being any gaps. Hold and press down and together to the one above it, until it is good and stuck! Do this on the other side too for a finished edge look.

WE ARE ALMOST DONE!!!!!
YIPPEE SKIPPY!!!!!
Aren't you just so EXCITED!!!!!

Now take some strips of your shredded paper and add some glue along the rough edges of your cardboard wings, and glue all along the edges to cover that up.....you can also use your burlap when applying it on the back to before cutting off. When covering the backside of your angel wings with the burlap, bring it up over to just the sides then trim it off. Remember to Modge Podge the sides of the cardboard too so it will adhere and let dry before trimming your burlap. I like the paper trim the best though...whatever your little heart desires!
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now get your vintage brooch or whatever you want to use for the center bar of the wings and glue it on. My next set is going to have a small picture frame with a photo in it, I think it will be cute! You can also use a frame with words in it like "LOVE", "JOY", "MOM", etc. Anything you want for a decoration will work fine...Try a few differnt things before you get started, then if it's something you have to make it will be done. Now just put a good dab of glue in the center of the wing bar and glue it down...press until it sticks really snug and good.
Next flip your wings over to the backside, and on the center of each side of your wings, place your picture hangers and glue really good. Cut a piece of  your ribbon or lace or wire and run it from one side to the other and tie it off so you can hang them where ever you want.
NEXT AND LAST I PROMISE is to.....flip this baby back over to the front, and this is the fun part......grab and scrunch all your paper strips. Then kinda of smooth all the wrinkled up paper down a bit and shape it around. IF....you find your wings are a little too full for your liking, just lift up your strips, take a pair of scissors and do a thinning, just like thinning your hair! Fluff to get all the cut pieces out, then smooth it down again. If you want you can even trim up through the center if needed just like layering a hair cut, to keep the center open enough to see the shape better of your wings....I did all of this on both sets I've made. If you have any questions, just ask...I is always around! xoxo
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I think they are just so SWEET!!!  Don't you!? :)

Now You ARE FINISHED!!!!!
Congrats on a job well done!!!!
ENJOY!!!!

NOW WHO would like to come clean up this mess! There are paper scraps from here all the way into the kitchen, to the bathroom, and up the stairs and into my office area. It stuck to me and every where I walked it fell off all over the place! Oh and don't wear black pants doing this....they are covered in paper DUST!!!!  Now.... I am tired!!!! Been up alnight for two nights doing the wings and this tutorial. I acutally fell asleep about 8:00 this morning sitting on the couch writing this tutorial with my lap top sitting on my lap....woke up at noon and finish the tutorial for you all. It's now 4:26PM....NAP TIME!!!!  :)

If you make these, please share......
I'd love to see them! :)

Both set of wings I made....large and small.

Organdy Ribbon Angel Wings

This little beauty was made from this tutorial too!

I started with a cardboard box, several spools of organdy ribbon, some braided gimp, an old rhinestone earring for some bling, white craft paint, some fluffy feathers, and my trusty glue gun. I had everything I needed in my stash so they didn't cost me a thing. I loved them. They just look so heavenly! With Christmas right around the corner, I thought I would share. If you have about 5 hours to spare, you can make some for your Christmas tree this year!

This little girl took 70 yards of 1/2" white organdy ribbon cut into 6" strips! I drew out the shape of the wings I wanted on a piece of cardboard from a box I had in the garage.

I painted the cardboard white with craft paint. Then I sat and cut my 6" strips of white organdy ribbon. And, then I sat for several hours glueing 4 pieces of organdy ribbon on at a time starting from the bottom working towards the top. Because the ribbon pieces were curled from being wrapped on the spool, I place one curled down, then one curled up, then one curled down, and then one curled up, which gave me the four pieces I glued stacked on top of each other on the cardboard. That gave them this fluffy look.

I worked both sides at the same time laying each group of ribbon on the cardboard, so I could make sure they would be even on both sides by laying them exactly in the same place on the cardboard.

When I got to the top I took three long strips of the ribbon laying them on top of each other and twisted them around to frame the top. I added the braided gimp all the way around on the edge of the cardboard to cover the raw edges. I then added the feathers and the bling. I took one more single strip of the ribbon and made a loop to glue on the back to hang them on my tree.

I loved how the light reflects behind them on the Christmas tree at night! They were perfect!!!

The wing base (the cardboard) measured 10"W at the widest part of the wings x 8"L. The finished wings measure approximately 13"W x 12 1/2"L. From start to finish, it was about 5 hours.

The End!
